Catherine David / Articling student

Catherine David is currently a Bar articling student to the Quebec Bar and is completing her professional training at the École du Barreau du Québec. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Université Laval in December 2024. Throughout her academic career, she has been actively involved in initiatives related to access to justice and social law, notably as a student clinician at the Clinique juridique itinérante (Mobile Legal Clinic), as a representative of Université Laval at the 2023 Forum québécois sur l’accessibilité au droit et à la justice en matière civile et familiale (Quebec Forum on Access to Law and Justice in Civil and Family Matters), and as a student clinician at the Clinique juridique de droit international humanitaire et pénal (International Humanitarian and Criminal Law Legal Clinic). These experiences have fostered a strong sense of commitment and a desire to contribute, through her legal practice, to promoting access to justice and defending the rights of individuals and communities.

Catherine is also pursuing a Master of Laws (LL.M.) by thesis at Université Laval, with a particular interest in issues relating to digital sovereignty and the protection of Indigenous Peoples’ data. In parallel, she occasionally writes book reviews on Indigenous law for the Canadian Journal of Criminology and Criminal Justice and the Revue de science criminelle et de droit pénal, reflecting her intellectual curiosity and her commitment to actively develop her expertise.

Through her articling placement, Catherine aims to put her knowledge and skills to work in support of the recognition and protection of Indigenous Peoples’ rights. She aspires to develop a legal practice grounded in attentive listening, legal rigour, and respect for the distinct realities of the communities she serves.
